For instance, boilers heat water and distribute that water throughout the building via pipes and radiators. The minimum AFUE, (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating for boilers depends on how they are powered. For gas‐fired water boilers, the AFUE is 82%, for gas‐fired steam boilers, it’s 80%, for oil‐fired hot water boilers, it’s 84%, and for oil‐fired steam boilers, the AFUE is 82%.
The equipment attached to the boiler also impacts the AFUE, in that older systems are less efficient than newer ones. Most boilers produce little to no dust, and can heat both small and large homes evenly.
Electric and gas furnaces are able to heat your home even in the coldest of climates. Electric furnaces are initially less expensive than gas heating systems, but generally cost more to operate in the long run.
While gas furnaces are less expensive to operate, they do emit low levels of carbon monoxide throughout the home, so proper supervision is critical. The lifespan of an electric furnace is about 20 to 30 years, while gas furnaces usually last between 10 and 20 years, but heat the home much faster.
There are many things to consider when purchasing and installing a furnace, so let Maxwell & Keyser assist you to make the best decision that fits your needs!
